The CD player thread got me thinking about early tech.
The first computer I ever used was in my last year at school. It was kept in its own room, which was locked when not in use and for which you had to make bookings. The two machines had Space Invaders and a tennis game, and was used to teach Basic ("If 0 is > than x" or something like that). Green screen, iirc.
The first computer I used at work was a Bunker Ramo machine. Tiny screen.
The first computer I owned was a black and white laptop, bought for £400 in 1996. When buying it, I was told, "It doesn't communicate." I didn't know why it should communicate anyway and considered that irrelevant advice. I bought it for a research project. It died permanently exactly one hour after I'd copied the last files of the 250,000-word opus onto floppy disks in 1997.

My first computer was a mechanical one - a slide rule, circa 1969 or so. Brilliant bloody thing - needed no batteries, you could drop it, shoot people with elastic bands, stir tea with it and solve pretty much everything required to pass exams at the time.
I'd need to concentrate to use it now though.
First electrical computer was a Mac Powerbook circa 1995/6, I guess. Weighed more than the table I used it on, I seem to remember.

Spent hours and hours playing Football Director on my Spectrum. It was impossible but addictive plus prone to crashing half way through a season!

Early era - ZX Spectrum 48k.
PC era (Win 95 on) - a Packard Bell Intel Celeron 400 with a huge 4gb drive! Soon upgraded to the princely level of 10gb.

Awesome game list cholo. Don't forget Shadow Of The Beast II.
First machine was a Spectrum+2A. Used to get the monthly games magazines with the hack tapes on the front: load the hack, take out the tape, put the proper tape in....

I had literally hundreds of cracked games on the Amiga. Particular favourites being sensible soccer, speedball 2, xenon 2, escape from the planet of the robot monsters and 3d stunt car racer.

C64 and then a Amiga. Me and my mates from school probably single-handedly brought Commodore down with the amount of Amiga games we cracked.

then commodore 64 - hunchback and the hobbit...struggled for weeks to get out of a cave that thorin wouldn't let me out of if my memory serves me right...always died there
